About Us

Nepal
Nepal is the only Hindu Kingdom in the world, situated between India and China. Because of the internal political conflict about the equal deviation of power and wellness the economic situation of Nepal has strongly worsened. The disastrous result are seen everywhere. Lots of people have fled the rural areas and have sought safety and work in the cities and the capital Kathmandu. The Royal Nepalese Army has taken a strong stand against the rebels, and because of the instability only few tourist are visiting Nepal. Restaurants and hotels remain empty and may products remain on the shelves. The country is divided and many victims are among the civilians population. We of course hope the dialog between the parties is still getting a change. Only with diplomatic means this conflict can be solved. Most important is that Nepal can build its own future, exploiting its natural resources and tourism.

The trade with an extraordinary Third World Country

Nepal has a special attraction to many people. It is a landlocked country between India and China (Tibet) and therefore limited in its possibilities for trading goods. The traditional trading routes to Tibet have lost most of its importance. All trade routes follow the small goat and foot trails through the Himalaya. Caravans with sheep, goats and in the higher regions the Yak are still found on the trading routes to the Northern part of Nepal close to Tibet. In the early days salt was traded to China and Tibet. Wool, sheep, goats and meat were returned. Nepal is called the rooftop of the world. The roof is in bad condition and leaking. Neighbouring India in the south is Nepal’s logical trading partner. De plains of the Ganges end bordering Nepal. De great rivers of the Himalaya flow into India. They are fed with rainwater in the Monsoons and the melting water of snow and glaciers. The trading routes with India are easy through the open border. Main imports are food, oil products, and daily household articles. What has Nepal to offer? Lots of beautiful materials are available. The Nepalese people are merchants and their nation is famous for the rich culture they have specialized to exploit their limited natural resources. Beautiful gold and silverware, working brass and weaving techniques are produced.

Royal Bhaktapur

Royal Bhaktapur is a small family enterprise which was established in 2005. When visiting Nepal from several sites we were asked what we could do for Nepal. This question was natural as we have close ties for over 25 years’ the request was simple. Can we, Royal Bhaktapur, promote Nepalese handmade products, which are custom made? As we have a good knowledge of culture and intensive contacts since many years, we will be able to find good quality products, suitable for export. The local craftsman and small entrepreneurs will benefit from this trade. At first we have focussed on Pashmina shawls and embroidered T-shirts, woollen shawls and embroidery of emblems on personal request. Now we are extending the range of products with Pashmina sweaters, woodcarving, brass statues and business cards made from handmade Nepali paper. On demand we can fulfil your special requests. Your own design for shawls, T-shirts for a special occasion, you name it we make it exclusively for you; Offering only the Best Quality.

Supporting small entrepreneurs

Products made in Nepal are mainly manufactured by at household level or in small workshops. The main activities are gold and jewellery, woodcarving, brass statues, weaving and painting. The knowledge of these arts is transferred from father to son, from mother to daughter. Thanks to our experience and local contacts there is a good network for gathering handmade products. Our main goal is to support the local entrepreneur who can offer us a high quality product. In return we will pay them a fair prize for their products and support. With fair trade they can develop an independent position and support their families, sending their children to school, safeguard good housing and health support. As we have been negotiating to delivering only high quality product for a fair prize we can support them in making a living.

No child labour

Children should go to school, should be able to learn and have time to make their homework and have time to play. This can only be done when a family has sufficient income. We support the local entrepreneurs so they can send their children to school. The products we offer are not made by children hands. Our products are sold with certificate stating explicit that: “No child labour is involved”. There for: A fair product for a fair prize.

Pure handmade products

The quality of the Nepal handmade products is of a very high level. As there is a century long tradition of handcrafts being handed over from one generation to the next generation these ancient skills are kept alive. In 1979 the cultural heritage of the ancient cities in the Kathmandu valley were acknowledged by UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation) in the following period, 1980-1990 huge restoration works were undertaken. Temples and old Royal palaces were restored, boosting the art of handicraft into new higher quality levels. The tourist admires the works of art and culture. Through their interest the local tourist industries are doing well, and small handcraft workshops could open their business giving a positive impulse to the community. Unfortunately, since about 10 years, there is political unrest and the economy has fallen back seriously. It is of great importance for the Nepalese people to be able to export their products elsewhere in the world. Only in this way Nepal can make a step forward in positive development.

Products of the best quality
Nepalese people are proud on their country, culture and work. They are convinced producing high quality is the best way to sell their products. Their view on craftsmanship is widely admired as they spend endless time on reaching a high level of quality. Thanks to this input the small workshop can compete with the more commercial factories where production is higher, but where not always the same level of quality is reached.
