Woodcarving
Nepal has a long tradition in the field of construction of temples and palaces and the making woodcarvings. The art of building pagoda temples has been exported to China, Japan and Indonesia. These temples have been richly decorated with woodcarvings. Woodcarving is imbedded in the traditional craftsmanship’s that is transferred from father to son and daughter.
The art of woodcarving has been revived and has reached a very high level since then. Especially in the Kathmandu valley and more specific in Bhaktapur the cultural heritage has brought old arts to new life. The reconstruction of temples and palaces and building of houses and hotels in the traditional style has been debit to this revival. The roof construction, windows pillars and doors are often richly decorated with birds, god images and animals. Attention is paid to every detail of woodwork.
In a number of small workshops in Bhaktapur craftsman and woman make beautiful word carving products with tools which are used for already hundreds or thousand of years. Not only the woodcarving is used for temples and houses, but a newly discovered market for the consumer who wants to have (photo) frames, statues and wooden toys. While making these woodcarvings, the craftsman/woman uses often traditional patterns and designs. Making a piece of woodcarving is very time consuming. Depending on the experiences of the maker, the time involved in producing a piece further is related to the size and complexity of the work and may take days or months.
Photo frames
Through our contacts in Bhaktapur we have had a number of frames made, which we now can offer you exclusively. The photo frames we are offering are build up in several layers. Every piece of wood is made separately and then joined to vertical styles and architraves. When all the parts are completed the frames are joined and shipped. We threat the wood with neutral oil; this gives the wood a beautiful deep shine and preserves its character.

On request we can deliver wooden rocking horses. The rocking horses are worked with woodcarving. The wooden horses are made from inland tropical hardwood. The head of the horse is a special work of art and resembles natural. The legs en body are richly decorated with Nepalese patterns. The weight of a rocking horse is approximately 20 to 30 kg.
